Wedge Tornado
A tornado at least as wide as it is tall, looking like a dark wall rolling across the land. Wedges are often intense, though width alone does not set the rating.

How to spot it
A wide, dark mass rather than a thin funnel, sometimes hidden inside rain so that it is only seen at close range.
On radar
A large debris signature and a strong, broad velocity couplet.
Safety
Wedges can be nearly invisible at night or in rain. Shelter on warning, don’t wait to see it.
